My Favourite Album of the Year.

I was tagged by my AH-MAH-ZING friend Joe to do this post. Check out his blog here >>

2014 was a great year for music. We had some great songs that defined the year and lots of newcomers. But the person who stood out for me is Ed Sheeran and his album ‘X’. I think it is safe to say that he is one of the greatest artists of our generation. In my opinion he is our generations answer to the great artists like Michael Jackson, Freddy Mercury. Ed’s music is so relatable no matter what age you are. Whether you are 16 or 66 you will find a connection with his songs.

‘X’ is Ed’s second studio album and in my opinion better than his first even though that was amazing too. My favourite songs are ‘Thinking Out Loud’, ‘One’, ‘Nina’ but the one I can listen to over and over again is ‘Photograph’. With this song Ed has once again taken personal experience and turned into a song that is emotional and deep in a way that cannot be described. It is a song for everybody and it will have a different meaning to everyone who listens to it.

Charting number 1 in twelve different countries in its opening week says a lot, and not many artists achieve having their first two albums both chart as number one. It is also the most streamed album of 2014 and has been nominated for two Grammy’s.

I had the pleasure of seeing Ed Sheeran live back in 2013 and he was outstanding. It was just him and a guitar and I have never felt the O2’s atmosphere be so electrifying . He owns the stage and connects with the audience in a way that many artists struggle. The music on ‘X’ is another example of this connection, every song written with a different story but each one as emotional as the last.

Ed’s success is not surprising and I can only predict bigger and better things for him in the future.
